Sweelinck tot Stravinsky

Highlights from Allegro, a four part tv series made for the Netherlands broadcaster npo2, organised by EO with Ars Musica and filmed in Amersfoort at the Sint Joriskerk.

In this tv series I performed both on bass trombone and bass sackbut, covering music from Claude Goudimel (1514 - 1572) to Igor Stravinsky. (1882 - 1971)

These clips are from the first and second episodes featuring historical performance of Claude Goudimel, Jan Sweelinck and JS Bach.

The Year Without Summer

Lock-down Recital

-2020-

The year without summer is a recital centered around the poetic work "Darkness" by Lord Byron on the theme of an apocalyptic end of the world.

Written in 1816, a year known in history as The Year without Summer, after the Mount Tambora Strato-volcano erupted in the Dutch East Indies. The eruption cast huge quantities of sulphur into the atmosphere, blocking the sun, reducing global temperatures and causing raging storms across north-east America and northern Europe.

I recorded this recital in the summer of 2020 during the Netherlands Covid-19 lock-down while isolated in my apartment. The four works which make up this recital were chosen to depict the mental experience of the lock-down and the effect that the seemingly endless passing of time has when someone is trapped inside 24/7 for months.
